Child hurt in Council Bluffs railway accident

A little girl was recently hospitalized with injuries after a train struck her in Council Bluffs, Iowa, an article reported on October 18.

Information coming from the Council Bluffs Police revealed that they were notified of a railway accident that happened at the vicinity of 3rd Avenue and 14th Street at around 12:30 p.m. Responding officers found a child, only identified as a 9-year-old girl, on the rail tracks with a laceration on her forehead.

Apparently, the girl was attempting to cross the tracks after a train passed but was unaware of a second train following close behind the first, preliminary investigations revealed. It is unclear whether or not she saw or heard warnings of the second train’s presence.

The girl underwent surgery for her fractured skull and is currently in stable condition at the Omaha trauma center.
