Possibly contaminated meat products recalled in the US

On January 4, the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said that an estimated 89,568 lbs of meat products sold nationwide are being recalled due to possible wood debris contamination. The recall affects the Sam’s Choice Black Angus Vidalia Onion beef patties made by the Huisken Meat Company between November and December of 2015.

The Class II Recall explained that “extraneous wood materials” that may have come from one of the ingredients was detected in the products during processing. Though no one has complained of injuries or illnesses involving the affected beef patties, Huisken Meat and the FSIS urged consumers to throw it out immediately or return it to where they bought it. Individuals who accidentally consumed the recalled products are advised to seek medical attention if they experience illness or injuries.
