A westbound semi-truck struck and killed a pedestrian who was standing near his car on Interstate 80 in Tiffin early this morning. The 34-year-old pedestrian was declared dead when Iowa State Patrol arrived on the scene.
The deadly accident took place around 3:30 a.m., and the driver of the semi truck fled the scene of the accident. Authorities said that the pedestrian had pulled over on the shoulder of the highway and was walking towards the back of his car when he was hit by the oncoming vehicle. It is unclear at this time why he had pulled over in the first place.
State troopers are asking for any information that would help them locate the responsible semi truck driver who caused this accident. The semi truck will more than likely have damage to the front left side of the cab.
