A man was killed in an Iowa truck accident late Sunday night.

According to officials with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, 58 year-old Wellsburg-resident Richard Leroy England suffered fatal injuries in a truck accident on Interstate Highway 35 in northern Polk County Sunday. Police say the accident occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. near mile marker 98 north of Des Moines.

According to an Iowa State Patrol accident report, England was driving a semi-truck at the time of the accident. The motor carrier is listed as United Parcel Service. Authorities say England was traveling southbound on Interstate Highway 35 when he lost control of his vehicle, veered off the roadway, and collided with a wire safety guard.

England was transported by ground ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines where he was later pronounced dead.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
