Iowa Truck Accident: Fatal Crash in Polk Co.

A man was killed in an Iowa truck accident late Sunday night.

According to officials with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, 58 year-old Wellsburg-resident Richard Leroy England suffered fatal injuries in a truck accident on Interstate Highway 35 in northern Polk County Sunday. Police say the accident occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. near mile marker 98 north of Des Moines.

According to an Iowa State Patrol accident report, England was driving a semi-truck at the time of the accident. The motor carrier is listed as United Parcel Service. Authorities say England was traveling southbound on Interstate Highway 35 when he lost control of his vehicle, veered off the roadway, and collided with a wire safety guard.

England was transported by ground ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines where he was later pronounced dead.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

91 Year-Old Man Survives Night in Ditch After Iowa Truck Accident

A Lee County man is recovering after he spent the night in a ditch following an Iowa truck accident.

Accoridng to officials with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, 91 year-old Richard Mabeus was driving his pickup truck on a rural road Sunday night when he went through an intersection and crashed into a ditch. Mabeus got out of the truck and attempted to walk to look for help, but collapsed in the ditch, police say. He spent the night and part of Monday in the ditch before he was found by family members.

Mabeus’ family members called 911 and emergency response crews arrived on the scene shortly thereafter. Mabeus was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident. The nature and extent of his injuries are not known. He is also being treated for hypothermia.

The cause of the truck accident remains under investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Woman Killed in Iowa Truck Accident

A woman was killed in an Iowa truck accident early Sunday.

According to a statement from the Iowa State Patrol, 24 year-old West Des Moines-resident Riki Lee Ogden was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred on Interstate 80 about two miles south of Adair. Investigators determined that Ogden was traveling west on Interstate 80 in a 2008 Jeep Patriot truck shortly after 5:00 a.m. when the accident happened. Troopers say her vehicle crossed the median, rolled over, and came to rest on its wheels.

According to the accident report, Ogden was ejected through the sunroof of the truck. She was found in the roadway by response crews.

It is unclear at this time what caused Ogden to lose control of her vehicle, police said. The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

1 Injured in Iowa Truck Accident

One person was injured in an Iowa truck accident Monday.

According to officials with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, a semi-truck and a pickup truck collided shortly after 1:00 p.m. at the intersection of Iowa Highway 3 and County Road W14 northwest in Oelwein. Deputies say 55 year-old Cyrus Nimrick, of Westgate, was in a pickup truck and attempting to turn left off the highway when he was struck by a semi-truck.

Authorities say the semi-truck’s driver, 54 year-old James Kleppe, of Clermont, was attempting to go around Nimrick’s truck when the accident occurred.

Nimrick was transported by ambulance to Oelqein Mercy Hospital following the accident. The nature and extent of his injuries was not known. Kleppe was not injured in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.

New information on Boone county crash

Additional information is now available regarding the truck-ambulance crash that occurred yesterday.

The ambulance was carrying a 75-year-old Carroll man from St. Anthony Regional Hospital to another hospital.

Around 11:30 a.m., on Highway 30 near Beaver, the ambulance turned on its lights attempted to pass a semi-trailer truck.

Both vehicles were in the left lane. The truck driver moved into the right lane to allow the ambulance to pass, but the ambulance driver also moved into the right lane in an attempt to pass the truck.

The ambulance struck the back of the truck. Both the 75-year-old patient and a 53-year-old nurse in the ambulance were killed in the crash. A paramedic in the ambulance and the driver of the ambulance were both critically injured at taken to Greene County Medical Center and Mercy Medical Center for treatment.



Truck accident in Boone county kills two

Police are reporting that a truck accident in Boone County between a semi-trailer truck and an ambulance has killed two people.

The collision occurred only a few hours ago today on Highway 30 near the town of Beaver. Emergency personnel closed to highway in an effort to facilitate their response.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Transportation, Jessica Lown, said that the victims names will remain unreleased until their families have been notified. She also asked that motorists steer clear of the area for the time being so as not to jeopardize the safety of emergency responders.

Why the accident occurred is currently unknown. Investigation is ongoing.
