Posted on August 25th, 2011 No Comments

A motorcyle and a car collided on U.S. 40 yesterday, sending the motorcyclist to the hospital.

The collision took place at the intersection of Chamberlain Road and U.S. 40. A little after 2pm yesterday, the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on the highway and was making his way through the intesection at Chamberlain Road. At a 7900 block driveway, a 28-year-old woman driving a white car began pulling out onto the roadway, unaware of the oncoming motorcycle.

The motorcycle and the car collided, causing damage to both vehicles. Although the woman was not injured, the motorcyclist was taken by Lifeline Helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment of a head injury.

The Lost Creek Fire Department and Vigo County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene.  The intersection was cleared out about an hour after the incident occurred.

KCCI reports that  61-year-old Reverend Irvin Lewis, Sr., “was injured on June 28 when his motorcycle hit a road closed sign on Army Post Road at Southeast 4th Street.” His injuries included a “fractured collar bone and broken ribs,” according to KCCI.

According to police, Rev. Lewis suffered from a collapsed lung and unmanageable pain, which impeded his recovery. On July 5, the Reverend died.

Army Post Road was closed yesterday evening for investigation. KCCI reports that, “A police report on the accident indicated the road closed sign had blown into the west bound lanes of Army Post because it had not been properly secured with sand bags.” Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the motorcycle accident victim.
