Due to a problem with the wiring of a battery, BMW has issued an international recall of 1.3 million vehicles. In the United States, 367,000 vehicles have been recalled.
The problem stems from the battery cable connectors located in the trunks of certain models. BMW 5-and6-Series that were produced between 2004 and 2010 make up the American recall. These cable connectors could potentially have been connected improperly, and therefore pose a threat of overheating and fires.
One case of a fire has been reported so far in the United States. BMW plans on individually notifying the owners of these defective vehicles throughout the month of April.
