Sioux City officials investigate unsafe road

Posted on April 7th, 2010 No Comments

The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors has begun to review ways to slow motorists along Stone Avenue in Sioux City, Iowa. Following the paving of a nearby road, there have already been several crashes along Stone Avenue in which drivers have plowed into local residents’ homes.

According to county engineers, a stretch of Stone Avenue is poorly designed, with a sharp corner and difficult to see speed limit sign. Despite the Iowa Department of Transportation reduction of the speed limit near the corner from 55 mph to 35 mph, there have still been a number of accidents.

Board chairman George Boykin of Sioux City promises to improve the safety record along that section of the road by adding more fluorescent, clear signs and possibly additional guard rails.
