4 Injured in Iowa Motor Vehicle Accident

Four people were injured in an Iowa car accident Sunday evening.

According to officials with the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred at the intersection of Southwest Seventh Street and U.S. 20 in Dyersville. Police say 34 year-old Matthew Burnell was crossing south on U.S. 20 from a stop sign on Seventh Street shortly after 4:30 p.m. when 18 year-old Charles Emmerson collided with Burnell’s driver-side door. Both vehicles came to rest in the median.

Burnell was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque for treatment. He is listed in fair condition. Emmerson and his two passengers, 15 year-old Brian Emmerson and 49 year-old Sally Houser, were also taken to the Mercy Medical where they were treated and released.

No citations have been issued. The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

Car dangles from bridge after crash in Iowa

A car crash in Hiawatha, Iowa on the Interstate 380 bridge caused one car to be left dangled off of the side of the bridge.

The accident occurred as the traffic was backed up on the east side of the bridge and a van waited to turn left through the traffic. One motorist paused to let the van fit through the gap in traffic in order to cross the lanes.

The issue arose when a vehicle in the outside lane did not see the van and they collided. The car the went over a concrete barrier and through a chain link fence before landing nose first in the snow after falling from the bridge. Fire crews had to attach a chain to the vehicle to pull it up while emergency crews worked to clear the lanes.

Elderly man killed in pedestrian accident

Des Moines police report that a 91-year-old man was struck and killed by a dump truck near the downtown area Monday morning around 8 AM.

The pedestrian-vehicle accident took place when the man was attempting to cross the road in his motorized wheelchair. According to the dump truck driver, he was making a right turn at the same time and struck the man, who he says he did not see.

Police are still investigating but no charges have been filed.
