Eighty-five-year-old woman killed in van accident

An 85-year-old woman was killed in an auto accident. According to police reports, the accident occurred in Conrad.

The woman was apparently driving east when she did not stop at a stop sign and hit a truck. While the truck driver was not injured in the accident, the woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later pronounced dead.

2 Injured in 4-Car Iowa Falls Crash

Two women were injured in a four-vehicle accident on Highway 65 in Iowa Falls Wednesday.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 40 year-old Carrie Luella Cooper and 62 year-old Julia Marie Stewart were taken to Ellsworth Community Hospital with undisclosed injuries shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the accident occurred when two vehicles were stopped at in the southbound lanes of Highway 65 and a car driven by 35 year-old Kristine M. Stein of Geneva slammed into the rear of Stewart’s Plymouth Voyager van, forcing it into the rear of Cooper’s Chevy blazer.

Stein’s vehicle then collided with a car driven by 33 year-old Iowa Falls-resident Jennifer Lindaman.

Lindaman and Stein were not injured in the crash.

28 cars involved in Iowa accident

On Interstate 29, police responded to an accident involving 28 vehicles near marker 125.

Officials say that blowing snow led to poor visibility on the highway and caused the cars to run into one another. The highway was closed in order to sort through the chaos and clean debris from the accident. Drivers were left stranded on the highway and were bused to local schools in order to get out of the cold. The start of the accident is still under investigation.

One killed and three injury in Iowa car accident

A 35-year-old driver was killed and his three passengers were injured in a one-car crash.

Officials say that the driver was killed in the accident that occured in the early hours of February 27. The man was rounding a curve in a Dodge Ram pickup truck when the truck crossed the center line. The truck then ended up ina ditch, hit an embankment, flipped and landed on its side. The driver was thrown from the vehicle. All of his passengers were injured but they conditions are not now known.

Two men injured in one-car accident

Two men were injured in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 3 in Plymouth County.

A 53-year-old man and a 41-year-old man were driving south on the highway when, according to the driver, the snow was blowing so much that he could not see the road. He lost control of the car and it slid, hit a ditch and rolled. The car remained sliding on its roof until it hit a utility pole. After hitting the pole the car spun and and finally came to a stop when it hit a barbed wire fence. Both men were transported to the hospital.

Iowa House Approves Texting and Driving Ban

To help with the problem of distracted drivers, the Iowa House has apprpved a ban against texting while driving.

The House passed the ban 64-31 and now sends it along to the Senate. The new ban will also inlcude prohibiting instant messaging and email from your phone while driving. The new measure will go into effect on July 1. For the first year, people caught texting while driving will not be ticketed; only warnings will be given. After the first year, drivers will be given a $30 fine. If texting whiloe driving leads to a car accident causing injury or death, the fines will be much more. The driver is allowed to pull over on the road and send text messages.

Three-Car Crash Kills One; Injures Three

On Interstate 80, a teen from Williamsburg was killed and three other people were injured.

A line of three cars were driving and the one in the rear failed to slow down. The vehicle slammed into the second one, causing the second one to hit the first one. A 14-year-old passenger in the second vehicle was killed in the crash. The driver and another passenger in her vehicle were injured and transported to the hospital. The driver of the third vehicle was alos injured. The crash is still under investigation.

Three Killed in Head-On Crash

In Southeast Iowa, three people were killed in a head-on collision.

The ice on the streets was a contributing factor in the accident. One of the vehicles slid on the ice on to oncoming traffic and collided with a van. There were four people in the car and one person in the van. The driver and two passengers in the car were killed and the other was injured. The driver of the van, who was the only one in the van, was also injured.  The accident happened in the evening hours of February 16.

Dexter Woman Dies in Accident; 2 more Injured

In Guthrie County, an accident took the life of a Dexter woman and injured two more.

The 22-year-old woman lost control of her car on Highway 6. He car crossed the center line and was hit head-on by a van. The driver and passenger of the van were both injured and taken to the hospital. The 22-year-old woman died at the scene. Weather conditions may be the cause of the accident, but it is still being investigated.
