Iowa man injured after crashing into semitrailer

On Saturday,  Ryan J. Siebenbrodt, 30, of Des Moines crashed into an empty semitrailer driven by Walter J. Seilheimer, 66, of Sandwich, IL.

Siebenbrodt was driving a Chevrolet Impala which collided with the semi near Main Street and County Line Road in Kane County.  According to police, Siebenbrodt had to be cut from his car and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.  Seilheimer was unharmed.

The incident is still under investigation.

New Iowa law will require people under the age of 18 to wear seatbelt

A new law in Iowa will require people who are under the age of 18 and riding in the back seat of a vehicle to wear a seat belt or other restraint. The new law will go into effect starting July 1.

The new law will replace the old law that only required restraints for children under the age of 11. For people who violate the new law, they may receive a $50 fine. The driver may be required to pay the fine for children under the age of 14.

Iowa City man injured in car accident near Hummewell

An Iowa City driver was injured in a car accident Wednesday. According to police reports, the accident occurred near Hunnewell.

The driver apparently lost control of his car, causing it to swerve off the road and overturn onto its side. The driver apparently was not wearing a seatbelt and was injured in the accident.

Ammonia leak shuts down part of highway near Highway 17

An ammonia leak on Iowa Highway 17 shut down the highway earlier this week. According to police reports, the leak occurred near Boone.

The leak was the result of a truck crashing into a snowbank and overturning into a ditch. Although there was a chemical leak, no one was injured in the accident, and the highway was shut down for three hours.

Two people injured in one-car Iowa accident

Two people injured in a one-car Iowa accident Tuesday. According to police reports, the accident occurred in Plymouth County.

The car apparently was driving south on Highway 3 when the driver could not see the road because of blowing snow. The snow caused the driver to lose control of his car, which rolled over and slid into a ditch.

Sherman man injured in accident near Iowa-South Dakota border

A man from Sherman was injured in an Iowa accident Thursday. According to police reports, the accident occurred near the Iowa-South Dakota border. 

The man was apparently driving near Gitchie Manitou State Park when he lost control of his car and struck a tree. When medical officials arrived, the man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Dexter Woman Dies in Accident; 2 more Injured

In Guthrie County, an accident took the life of a Dexter woman and injured two more.

The 22-year-old woman lost control of her car on Highway 6. He car crossed the center line and was hit head-on by a van. The driver and passenger of the van were both injured and taken to the hospital. The 22-year-old woman died at the scene. Weather conditions may be the cause of the accident, but it is still being investigated.
