Can taking precribed medicine lead to an automobile accident?

Posted on January 13th, 2010 No Comments

People are prescribed medicine for a variety of medical conditions. While many of these medications help treat the illness, they can also have a number of side effects that make driving dangerous.

For instance, some medications make people drowsy. The resulting tiredness behind the wheel can impair a person's ability to drive or cause them to fall asleep.

In most cases, the doctor who prescribes the medication will inform the patient of any side effects. However, the driver could be held responsible for any auto accidents caused by the drug's side effects.

The risks of using GPS navigation systems

Posted on January 12th, 2010 No Comments

Many drivers today equip their vehicles with GPS navigation systems. These systems allow drivers to look up and use directions on the go.

While these navigation systems are useful for navigation purposes, they can also be harmful to drivers because they are a source of distraction. When drivers are distracted by the inputs and directions of their navigation systems, they are more likely to be involved in traffic accidents.

Drunk driving or driving while texting, which is more dangerous?

Posted on November 6th, 2009 No Comments

Many people are starting to claim that driving while texting is more dangerous than drunk driving. In most cases, however, it is a matter of circumstance.

Nevertheless, both are dangerous and impair drivers' ability to make judgments while driving. Drunk driving impairs drivers by slowing down their motor skills and cognitive recognition. Without these abilities, drivers are unable to react properly to traffic.

Drivers who text, on the other hand, pose a danger to other drivers and themselves because they cannot pay attention to the road properly. By texting on their cell phone, these drivers take their eyes off the phone for significant periods of time.

The basics of tire-blowout accidents

Posted on August 19th, 2009 No Comments

Many traffic accidents are caused by tire blowouts. In some cases, the tire blowout is a result of poor tire manufacturing, including design defects, road hazards and maintenance issues.

In such cases, the tire manufacturer may be liable in the accident. However, if the tire blew because it was old and worn, then the tire manufacturer likely is not at fault because of natural wear-and-tear standards.

When tires blow out, the car can swerve off the road, hit another vehicle, or even rollover. These tragic accidents often lead to severe injuries.

Because of the complexity and severity of tire-blowout accidents, people involved in these accidents should call the Iowa automobile accident lawyers at 877-327-2600.

Man's death in accident now a supsected suicide

Posted on August 18th, 2009 No Comments

Although Des Moines police officers initially believed a man was killed in a car accident Monday morning, they are now suspecting that the death was the result of a homicide.

The accident occurred early Monday morning when an automobile struck a tree. But after investigating the scene, officers realized that the car was probably not traveling fast enough to kill the man.

A neighbor told officers that she heard a gunshot. Des Moines police officials, however, declined to speculate that the victim was shot until an autopsy was performed.
