The crash occurred near the intersection of Cedar Terrace Drive and Texas Street. The cyclist was crossing the intersection when he was struck by a car.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene when police and emergency personnel arrived.

The incident is still under investigation.

The 13-year-old rode his bicycle into the middle of the intersection of Sixth Street and Forest Avenue around 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. A Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority bus traveling through the intersection struck the teenager.

The teen was taken to Mercy Medical Center with a broken leg and facial abrasions. Witnesses say that the bus had a green light and that the teen rode against traffic in entering the intersection. The bus driver has no history of accidents or disciplinary action.

No charges have been filed.
