Nut products sold in the US recalled due to Salmonella risks
A North Carolina-based company recently issued a recall on the “Diamond of California” brand of macadamia nuts after a sample contained harmful Salmonella bacteria, an August 31 article of Food Safety News stated.
According to reports, Snyder’s-Lance Inc., is cooperating with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after a laboratory test detected the hazardous bacteria in one of its samples. Neither the recalling company nor the FDA received illness complaints before the recall was issued. Snyder’s-Lance advised consumers to contact them to get their money back. When ingested, food containing Salmonella bacteria can cause severe or even fatal illness to children and older adults who have a very weak immune system. For healthy people, the bacteria can trigger digestive problems, nausea, vomiting, and fever.
