Drunk driving deaths spike in Iowa as license revocations fall
Reports in Mason City revealed that although there was an increase in fatal accidents caused by drivers who operated a vehicle while intoxicated last year, the number of licenses revoked in the same year actually decreased.
There were 123 deaths due to drunk driving recorded in 2015 compared to 110 deaths recorded in 2014. In contrast, approximately 14,000 licenses were revoked last year, a drop from the year before. The Mason City Crime Prevention Coordinator explained that there are people who are not good behind the wheel even if their blood alcohol level is lower than the legal limit of .08 percent. The Crime Prevention Coordinator advised that people should appoint a designated driver if they expect to drink even small amounts of alcohol.
