Motorcyclist fatally struck by semi

A motorcyclist recently succumbed to his injuries after he was struck by a semi-truck in Cedar Rapids, kwwl.com reported on July 14.

Reports provided by the Cedar Rapids Police said the motorcycle and semi-truck collision happened on the Highway 100 interchange before 7 a.m. Motorcyclist Evan Volkers, 24, was heading west on Collins Road Overpass when he was struck by the semi. Responding crews needed to extricate Volkers from the wreckage, and he was pronounced dead after being admitted at the hospital. Motorists were temporarily prevented from accessing the overpass where the crash occurred. Any people who witnessed the accident were advised by police to contact their Traffic Division as part of their ongoing investigation.

Portions of the highway and interchange were closed for most of the day, as police and emergency medical personnel worked at the scene.
