Iowa City Council proposes cameras to be installed at red lights

The Iowa City Council has recently met again in order to discuss the installation of cameras at traffic lights at major intersections in the city.

The council had a second meeting on whether or not the cameras should be installed at 10 different intersections last week.

The decision has been somewhat controversial because some think that the system is just a way for the camera companies to make money while others think that the cameras could be a potential hazard.

Recent literature has suggested that the use of red light cameras increases the risk of rear-end collisions. Iowa City officials have stated that the addition of the cameras will enhance safety for pedestrians and motorists in the area. The council voted 4-3 in the second proposal vote.
