Boy Killed in Iowa Car Accident

A 10 year-old boy was killed in an Iowa car accident in rural Marshall County Wednesday.

According to officials with the Iowa state patrol, the accident occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday on a gravel road near 180th street, about three miles southwest of Albion. Troopers say 34 year-old Mitchell Storjohann, of Marshalltown, was traveling west in the middle of the road when he crested a hill and struck an eastbound Kia Sedona driven by 33 year-old Shane Ersland, of Iowa City.

It is unclear which vehicle the boy who died was in at the time of the crash.

Ersland and a passenger in his car, 57 year-old Ann Ersland, were injured in the accident and transported by ambulance to a Marshalltown hospital. The nature and extent of their injuries was not immediately known. Troopers said their lives were saved because they were wearing seat belts.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ family and friends during this difficult time.
