Firefighter Seriously Injured in Iowa Motorcycle Accident

Posted on July 9th, 2010 No Comments

The Fox Valley Villages Sun reports that, “An Aurora firefighter remains in intensive care in an Iowa hospital after a motorcycle accident cost him one of his legs, fire officials said Thursday.”

Jason Matile, 26, went on a family motorcycle ride June 26th with his girlfriend, Amber Pyle, brother, and parents. According to The Sun, “A car crossed the center lane… striking Matile and Pyle, and severely injuring both.”

Both Matile and Pyle were taken to the University of Iowa Hospital by helicopter. There, doctors said Matile’s right leg injuries were so severe that they needed to amputate his leg below the knee. Matile is expected to be in the hospital for a while longer.

Amber Pyle has a fractured pelvis and was allowed to leave the hospital Tuesday.

Matile has served as a firefighter in the Aurora Fire Department for two years.
