Linn County Sheriff’s deputies responding to a call around 1 a.m. this morning found a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix crashed into a river at the 3500 block of Ellis Road in Cedar Rapids.

Police arrived to find the vehicle abandoned. They were able to identify the owner of the car from its registration papers, and after a short search located two 23-year-old women intoxicated in public.

According to the women, they were in the car when it veered off of the road, rolled over, and slid down an embankment into the river. Police were unable to determine which of the women was driving at the time.

Both of the women were sigificantly intoxicated, so either way it was a drunk driving accident.

Luckily, neither of the women were injured in the accident. This is not always the case when it comes to drunken drivers.
