Iowa House Approves Texting and Driving Ban

To help with the problem of distracted drivers, the Iowa House has apprpved a ban against texting while driving.

The House passed the ban 64-31 and now sends it along to the Senate. The new ban will also inlcude prohibiting instant messaging and email from your phone while driving. The new measure will go into effect on July 1. For the first year, people caught texting while driving will not be ticketed; only warnings will be given. After the first year, drivers will be given a $30 fine. If texting whiloe driving leads to a car accident causing injury or death, the fines will be much more. The driver is allowed to pull over on the road and send text messages.
