Couple injured in train accident

A couple from Mason City was hit by a train Saturday night. The husband was traveling down 280th street when he failed to yield to the train and got stuck. 

The train carried the truck 100 yards before it stopped. Although the woman and man sustained significant injuries, police reports indicate that the man was in fair condition and the woman was in stable condition Saturday night.

Tractor trailer hits low bridge

A tractor trailer went under a bridge that was too short, damaging the trailer and leaving debris in its trail. The truck, however, did not stop and continued driving until the trailer finally snapped. 

According to police reports, there were no injuries in the crash and the driver did not receive a ticket for the accident, but for a mechanical failure.

Iowa law enforcement officer charged with drunken driving

An Iowa law enforcement officer who was arrested over a week ago in Ames was charged with drunken driving Tuesday. Captain Chris Moline of Webster City was pulled over for drunken driving Sep. 6.

The Iowa officer was temporarily relieved of his command and reassigned until the case is complete, according to police authorities. Moline was part of the Iowa Department of Transportation's Motor Vehicle Enforcement Unit and was honored in 2001 by a professional police group for how he handled a 2000 police chase of a homicide suspect.

Woman arrested after trying to run over pedestrian

A 47-year-old woman from Des Moines took police on a high-speed chase Saturday. The woman alledgedly attempted to run over a man.

When police arrived to the scene, the woman apparently sped away until she was finally stopped. When the officers approached the woman, she threatened them and then tried to dive off again before being arrested.

Young girl dies in falling accident

A 3-year-old girl was left alone and fell from chair Monday. The accident badly injured the girl, and when she was taken to the hospital, she died while receiving treatment. 

Police investigated the incident and believe it was accidental. However, they are continuing the investigation to determine if there was any misconduct.

Cab driver takes advantage of female passenger

A Cedar Rapids cabdriver took advantage of a woman who fell asleep in his cab last Saturday. Mark Huebbe alledgedly groped his passenger and was charged with assault with intent to commit sexual abuse. 

After a short time, the woman woke up, and Hubbe immediately took her home. Once safely at home, the woman called police, who then questioned Hubbe and later arrested him.

Man falls off roof, injured in accident

A man from Clear Lake fell off a roof and was injured Thursday morning. Darrell Peeckham was working on a two-story home when he slipped, fell off the roof, and landed in the middle of a hot tub cover on his back. 

The accident occurred while Peckham was on the job. Medical officials took Peckham to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Car hits tree, woman injured

A woman from Muscatine lost control of her car and crashed into a tree at Fulliam Park Tuesday. Jane Ingersoll was driving her Jeep Grand Cherokee down Fulliam Ave. when her car swerved off the road, crashed through a fence, and stopped when it hit the tree. 

At the time of the accident, nobody else was in the park, and Ingersoll was the only person injured. When witnesses saw the wreck, they ran over to assist the woman and called medical officials. Ingersoll was then taken to Unity Hospital.
