Iowa State Representative Kerry Burt issued a statement Friday apologizing for his recent driving under the influence violation.
The 44-year-old state representative will stand trial this week after entering a guilty plea Friday and receiving deferred judgment. As part of the judgment, Burt will serve a one-year probation, receive a $600 fine and take a drunk driving program.
Burt was arrested Feb. 11 when he was pulled over and registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.129 percent, above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
