A teenager survived a head-on collision with a street light pole in Des Moines at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Police officials did not disclose the boy's name and age.
The teenager's car, a blue Dodge sedan, allegedly ran a red light before hitting the pole at the intersection of Southeast 14th Street and Watrous Avenue. Police officials said firefighters, medics and police extracted the boy from the wreckage and took him by ambulance to Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
Police officials said they were unsure whether the boy was wearing a seat belt.
